yesterday, a girlfriend of mine and i grabbed a late lunch over at motorino; the new pizza spot on broadway. i liked motorino from the moment we walked in the door. there were warm brick walls that enveloped the space and soft, low light that created an intimate, cozy atmosphere.
the menu wasn’t too extensive but you could tell each of the items had been carefully selected. we started with a couple of salads. the arugula with shaved italian cheese, smoked pancetta, dried fig and mustard vinaigrette was my favorite. we followed up the salads with a pizza to share, it was topped with sautéed garlic, pecorino, brussels sprouts and more smoked pancetta. the pizza was nice and thin with a crispy, bubbly crust. and then, just for fun, we tried the meatballs. i’m not sure what their secret is but the waitress did tell us they use ricotta in the mix so i’m assuming that’s what made them so tender and delicious. they were topped with a red sauce that really set them apart.
the service was very good too. although our salads took a little longer than expected to come out, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. i like that they do a special as well. from 11-4, you can do a pizza and a salad for $12, not bad! definitely check it out, it’s perfect for a casual date or easy weeknight dinner.
