now, knowing the huge crowds that gather to eat at this place, we arrived to cantler’s at about 11:15am. cantler’s opens at 11am and at first i wondered, who the heck wants to eat crabs that early? let me tell you, apparently half of annapolis does. the whole patio was filled by 11:30 and by noon the inside dining room was full too and there was a line out the door.
if you’re not in the know, good luck finding this place. we, thankfully, had our very favorite maryland crab expert with us, our friend amy led the way. cantler’s is tucked down a long, windy, residential road on the chesapeake bay. when we got there, we luckily snagged one of the last tables outside and perused the menu. while it’s pretty extensive, everyone goes there for the crabs. we ordered 18 of them, along with a side of hush puppies, french fries and some peel and eat shrimp. they bring the crabs out on a big cafeteria tray, dump them on your paper covered picnic table and let you dive in to do the rest.
cantler’s was such a fun, delicious experience. if you’re anywhere near Annapolis, you should definitely give it a shot. be sure to take a pro with you though, actually cracking those crabs can be tricky if you don’t know what you’re doing!
