it was long overdue but jack and i finally got to go out for a date night! thanks to my parents coming in town and surprising me for my birthday, we were able to sneak out last saturday night and enjoy a quaint little dinner together at cafe colette. we went early since we didn’t have reservations and i went inside the restaurant to grab a table while jack parked the car. i was a little annoyed when the hostess asked me to have a seat at the bar until my other guest joined (it’s not nearly as much fun to sit at the bar at 7 months pregnant than in used to be) but i begrudgingly obliged and it actually turned out for the better. the bartender couldn’t have been more lovely! she was so friendly and made a delicious mocktail for me that turned my mood around. when jack made his way in, we decided not to take a table at all and enjoyed our dinner from our bar stools.
we ordered the brussels sprouts to snack on as a starter and wow were they delicious! they had some sort of maple glazed goodness all over them and they were fried up perfectly crispy and dark. for my main, i ordered the english pea ravioli. i was cooked in a velvety brown butter with wild mushrooms and aged parmesan. the pasta had a decadent earthy flavor and paired beautifully with the mushrooms. as much as i loved my pasta, i think i was outdone by the steak jack ordered. it was on special and had been prepared perfectly. you know a meal is good when there’s not a bite left (on either of our plates!). we wrapped up with a few scoops of ice cream and made our way home before the dinner crown really kicked in.
great food, wonderful service and a really charming atmosphere.
